Pathways to write

In Key Stage 2, we follow a Mastery approach to English through the programme ‘Pathways to Write.’ Units of work are delivered using high quality texts and children in all year groups are given varied opportunities for writing. Skills are built up through repetition within the units, and children apply these skills in the writing activities provided.  Many opportunities for widening children’s vocabulary are given through the Pathways to Write approach and this builds on the extensive work we do in school to provide our children with a rich and varied vocabulary.  Each unit, has effective examples of modelled writing, which the teacher can then build on in class with the children.

Pathways is successful in engaging the children through the use of carefully selected texts. One of the best things about Pathways is that we can see much more evidence of children writing at length regularly. Effective teaching strategies to challenge Greater Depth writers are included within each unit of work and the work can also easily be tailored for SEND children.
